Looking For A Reason

The Thirteenth Floor Sitting high on the rooftop Looking over my city Rising more than 100 storeys high Breathe the air - So fresh Everything far - Nothing near Except the clouds I pluck from the sky High above the streets Where the chaos reigns supreme People gather in their daily toil Scuttling round - Like ants Try to please their Queen, but can’t Can’t Deliver - She remains their constant foil Many floors below People come and go Living - Working All their days But on the thirteenth floor There’s something they don’t know Strange things behind the doors On the thirteenth floor Staring down from my rooftop All I feel is pity For the people down there, unaware Feeling safe in their swarms Stronger together, they belong They’re acting like they really care But, far down below Where the normal people go They can’t see me way up here But on the thirteenth floor There’s something strange I know Waiting behind the doors On the thirteenth floor On the thirteenth floor From my view up here I see people live in fear Fear of the unknown in their minds But on the thirteenth floor They don’t want to know What lies behind the doors On the thirteenth floor On the thirteenth floor I take another breath Close my eyes and drift Aware that I’m perched near the edge Floating in my silent dream Edging further to a scream My eyes flash open Just in time Sitting high on the rooftop I look over my city It rises more than 100 storeys I breathe the air It smells and tastes uniquely fresh Everything is so far Nothing is near I reach out And pluck some clouds from the sky

Downtown 04:19
Going out tonight Down into the City Just walking ‘round I got no money See the lights and signs People having good times Drinking, laughing, everywhere In the crowded bars Things are getting busy All these people Looking at me Familiar faces shout hello How’s it goin’? Don’t know their names, but then who cares? I’m just happy that I’m Downtown Where all the crazy people play Feeling good tonight Senses full on fire The excitement and the flavour Always come down here Never ever lonely Wide eyed Drinking it all in I’m happy I’ve come Downtown Where all the coolest people play It’s a good feeling being Downtown I think that I am gonna stay

In The Darkness In the darkness Nothing reaches me down here No need for my eyes to see No light to reflect my dreams Not a sound gets through this stuff Total silence near enough All I hear is my body’s pulse In my head - running ‘round Sometimes I think it’s just a dream Imagining that it’s not real Strange thing is I’m not really sure I’m not convinced Don’t know how I got here Don’t remember a thing Got no sense of space or time Nothing here in my brain It’s like - I exist in a bubble Of some weird unknown thing Try to touch it but there’s nothing there Can’t make sense of anything Sometimes I think it’s just a dream Imagining that it’s not real Strange thing is I’m not really sure I’m not convinced Sometimes echoes from my past Come around but never last My heart is telling me they’re real I’m not convinced Sometimes I wake up in a scream I’ve had the same old dream again It felt so real - I am confused I’m not convinced

Scarecrow 05:01
SCARECROW He walks in the night When you’re asleep Plants seeds in your head Just biding time Waiting for the moment Sensing your fear Thoughts of confusion In your mind Destroyer of your dreams Suddenly you scream Scarecrow From out in the field He gets in your mind Waiting for the right time To take you Lurks in shadows Always near You’re getting paranoid He smells your every fear Creator of your nightmares Suddenly you scream Scarecrow Lying there tense with fear Your mind exaggerating everything you see and hear You see a reflections in the moonlight You start to scream but there’s no one to help you near Stands in the fields With outstretched arms He knows you think He means you harm Terrified by movement Of shadows on the wall He’s here to steal And make you feel A sense of loss That will reveal There are things that dwell inside you Suddenly you scream Scarecrow x

Newborn 05:07
I open my eyes to a bright shining light. From a thing that burns in the sky. Newborn am I - Not used to this life. Suddenly held up high. A smack on my skin - the tears start to well. Fear I feel inside. Don’t know this space - or any one face. Frightened, unsure , I cry. Wrapped in warm cloth - I feel so safe Now in the arms of my mother. Then wrenched away I feel her tears fall As she gives me away to another This is my home - Where I have lived Most of my days on my own Used to it now - No need for a friend My body is young and I’m strong Living is hard - One day at a time Praying for something to eat No-one knows my name I like it that way - Nothing for me to explain If I had been somebody else Things would probably be the same When Summer is here - I don’t really mind Sleeping outside in a doorway When the dawn comes - You have to move on It’s an unwritten rule of the road Cold soon bites - In the long Winter nights Begging for my survival A couple of bucks - Will do me alright It’s all just a means to an end If I had been somebody else Things would probably be the same Alone all my life - No love I’ve felt Passed on from pillar to post Life now for me is getting me down Tomorrow I dread the most Now I am old and tired of this life I can hardly open my eyes Cast out once again I lie in the dirt I curl myself up and I die

Drift 07:32
Slowly Falling From another place Burning Stinging Feel it on my face Reeling From the pain Find it hard to breathe Stumbling through the rain Everything diseased Downdrift In the fine mist Covers all it touches Bad dust Caused by us Death the only justice Night time Daylight Everything is bright All hours seem the same Is it day or night? Feeling sick again In my head's the pain Nightmarish landscape Won't be the same again Downdrift In the fine mist Covers all it touches Bad dust Caused by us Death the only justice Downdrift In the fine mist Covers all it touches Bad dust Caused by us Death the only justice

Balloonia 05:57
Balloonia Floating through my universe Watch the space dust pass me by No stars shining in the sky Just lights on a black blanket Feel no heat yet my sun still shines Throwing light a billion miles Into orbit in my mind Just light on a black blanket Balloonia I have journeyed far Built on planets travelled time Balloonia I created stars To light up this black blanket Through the deepest recesses Darkest matter hard to feel Fear of nothing that is real No life on this black blanket Search for something I can’t find Deep within my inner mind Mysteries of a given kind That lie on my black blanket Balloonia I have journeyed far Built on planets travelled time Thought up solely in my mind Balloonia I created stars To light up this black blanket Drifting effortlessly Sailing on a plasma screen Different forms of life I’ve seen From under my black blanket Radio is out of touch Mind is thinking it doesn’t work Too far away and out of luck Deep inside this black blanket Balloonia So near yet far Ever closer by the day Seeing life in another way Balloonia in time and space Warped dimensions twisted ways Waiting for the end of days Balloonia a tiredless mime Recording distance by the years Too far out for any tears Balloonia…………………….

THE GREAT UNWASHED We’re all alcoholics ‘Cept Billy the junkie And maybe old Mary who eats Vaseline We all have our problems Our own special addictions We just hide in the shadows And die in our dreams Over there sits young Billy We call him the junkie He’s not had a job for the best of FIVE years But he’s not got the heart to go mugging or thieving He just sits in the corner And swallows his Fears Then there’s old Mary She’ll tell you the story About all the lives she’s supposed to have saved She was a nurse in the army somewhere SHE DON’T REMEMBER She just hurts herself She’ll do you no harm Me my names Davy They say that I’m crazy Because of what I have done and the things I have seen But I’m just as sane as the doctors in here I take my punishment And don’t pass the blame We’re just victims of circumstance With social rejection at the heart of our problems We’ll never fit in with the sane and the normal We are the minority Who live on the edge

Takin' Time 04:24
TAKING TIME I’m taking time to think things over Taking the time to work things out I’m taking time so I remember What this thing was all about Taking the time to rediscover What’s going on inside my head Taking the time - Until I feel right With the words that we both said I’m taking time to try to mend the rift Created by our stubborn traits Taking time to give myself a lift Looking for a reason I’m trying to think of all the good things The calm we had before the storm All we did and planned together Try to work out what went wrong Looking back I never saw the signs Of what there was to come Through tinted glasses I watched your lies Even when it was undone Taking time to try ’n fix my head Sort this jumble out Taking time til it feels right with me Looking for a reason I’m taking time to think things over Taking the time to work things out I’m taking time to rediscover Just what this thing was all about I’m trying hard to remember What I did to piss you off Can’t think of anything - You’re gonna have to take the blame I’ve stopped the train!!! I’ve taken time to try ’n mend a rift That was there right from the start Taking time to give myself a lift Looking for a reason! Try to think of all the good things Was there any in our past? It’s hurts my brain - Can’t take the strain Looking for a reason Looking for a reason Looking for a reason Looking for a reason
