Unusual Song

I was listening to a lot of the old Prog band 'Camel', and got reminded of their song, "Highways of the Sun". I've always liked it since I first heard it in the 70s. I'd had an idea running through my head for a new song, well I had a rough lyric, and decided to write something similar. Whatcha thunk!

We laughed and we talked as we went for a walk down the street that was covered with leaves
The rain was intense and the heat made no sense
And her hair was all over the place

I smiled as I thought about what I had bought in the strange little shop we’d just left
A small silver chain with a token of sorts that was laying on top of her dress

Happiest of days
Crazy in our ways
Living for the moment
Never thinking

We stopped off at the pub for a beer and some grub
When she asked for a couple of coins
The box on the wall where the music came from didn’t work
She got very annoyed

I remember those days
Looking back I’m amazed
We were living for the moment
Never worrying

We just sang along
To an unusual song
Making up words as we went along
That turned into something
Laughing out loud
At the craziness of the sound
Of the unusual song
Taking us somewhere

On the way back home still singing the song
we stopped outside of her door
We pushed through that thing only stopping to sing the words of the chorus once more

When we stepped in the room
Through the dust and the gloom
We stood in a trance at the mess
The dogs had got out and had just trashed the place
I just laughed, She wasn’t impressed

Recalling a time
From the back of my mind
We were living for the moment
Taking it slowly
